Here at the Independent, we have a special affinity for the Mint Julep. And, while we're not all that into Horse racing, we always mark the occasion of the Kentucky Derby with a celebration of Kentucky Bourbon, big hats, seersucker and, above all, mint juleps.
So, starting at 11 .a.m this Saturday (which also happens to be Cinco de Mayo this year) we're going to open early for a brunch (in which Chef Jamilka Borges will pay homage to Mexico) and Mint Juleps and Tea Punch (in which we will pay homage to Kentucky). We'll also have a smattering of brunch beers (Muchos Mahalos, a fruited Kolsch from the Brew Gentlemen and Boulevard's Tequila-Barrel-Aged Gose, to name a couple) and mimosas.
The party will carry on through the evening as we continue to celebrate Bourbon, beer, and, of course, great food.
Please note: the Kentucky Derby will NOT be televised.
